My most used designer crossbody bags

Do you love crossbody bags? And maybe considering getting a new one, or you want to know more about some of the different styles? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Here I’ll show you my most used designer crossbody bags from Chanel, Gucci, Balenciaga and Proenza Schouler, and will let you know why I love them.

I’ve always loved a good looking crossbody bag. The practicality of having two hands free is undoubtedly the biggest plus, but they make an outfit look great too. A crossbody bag is more incorporated into the outfit and makes it a bit more casual looking, which suits me well since I prefer casual over formal. And from the day I became a mother they have not only been NICE to have, but NEED to have as well.

Over the years I’ve owned many crossbody bags from different designers. Some I’ve had for a long time and still have, some I eventually sold. In this post, I will show you 7 of my favorite crossbody bags that I use the most these days.

Chanel

The rectangular mini flap was a bag I wanted for a long time, but had to be patient because they are very popular and hard to find. No wonder, they are incredibly cute and the price is noticeably lower than the larger classic flaps. The mini flap has a single strap and the length is perfect for my 173 cm / 5’8″ frame. It’s doesn’t fit a lot so its a great evening bag, or if you only need to carry a wallet, keys, phone and a lipstick. So not the most practical bag if you’re having problems downsizing, but definitely the most beautiful looking bag.

I saw the Boy bag for the first time in New York in 2013. They were just launched and I fell head over heels. The Boy bag is rougher and more rock chic than the classic bags. I LOVE that. The strap is a little bit shorter compared to the mini flap, but still looks good when carried crossbody. I have a red Boy in old medium and a black in new medium size. The old medium is indeed larger than the mini flap, but still a lot smaller than the new medium Boy. To be honest there is a huge difference between these sizes! I can do a comparison post of the two Boy sizes later on.

Gucci

The Gucci Marmot is probably the bag that has surprised me the most. When I first saw it I thought it looked like a Chanel flap knockoff, but then it grew on me. There is something about the chevron stitching and the adorable heart on the bag. The chain length is perfect for carrying crossbody. And the price is much nicer! I got the mini size in ivory for my birthday nearly 1.5 years ago and have used it A LOT more than I thought I would. It’s a tiny bit larger than the Chanel mini flap, which makes it significantly more practical. I can easily fit sunglasses in addition to keys, wallet and phone. Yay! The leather version is quite durable as well (not sure how the velvet bags hold up). My light coloured Marmot has minor wear after using it regularly since it got it.

Proenza Schouler

I love the Proenza Schouler PS1 bags. I’ve been on verge of buying the medium size, but what stopped me was the shorter shoulder strap. The PS1 Medium can not be carried crossbody (unless you’re very petite). But the shoulder strap is much longer on the smallest version, the PS1 Pouch. This mini bag is fantastic if you want a casual and low maintenance designer bag with a crossbody strap, that is ROOMY. You won’t believe how much this little bag can fit! Probably because it’s slouchy and quite wide. This is my to go bag when I need something casual that can fit essentials like wallet, keys and phone, plus a few more things like sunglasses, a coin purse and even a small umbrella.

Balenciaga

I’m a Balenciaga gal so their crossbody bags are naturally a part of my bag collection.

The Balenciaga Hip bag is a little cutie. A great bag to bring out for a quick errand or to a casual date. I often carry the Hip when I’m out for a walk with the stroller and have a diaper bag with me as well. It’s a small bag, but it’s a little larger than the Chanel mini flap. I’d say it’s the same size as the Gucci Marmot mini bag, maybe a tad bit larger.

The non-Motorcycle “no name” bag stands out from my collection. I saw this bag in a store, it was on sale and I fell instantly in love. The SA didn’t know the name and the Balenciaga tags didn’t say either. It’s very different from all my other Balenciaga bags and I love that. What I fell for was the beautiful blue grey colour that reminds me of their older colour Tempete (which I had in a City but sold), the structured shape (which I am more and more into these days) and the practicality with the crossbody strap and several compartments and pockets. It’s indeed a roomy bag. This was a rare bag impulse buy, but I’ve never regretted it.

When Balenciaga launched the in-between version of the regular City and the tiny Mini City, the Small City with a long shoulder strap, I was SOLD. It resembles the Town which I used to own and loved, but since the City is my favourite Balenciaga model I loved the look of the Small City more. So the Town had to go. The Small City is one of my most used bags, I tend to grab it a lot on an everyday basis. The size is perfect because you do not have to downsize compared to other smaller crossbody bags. The Small City easily fits your essentials plus larger items like an iPad, umbrella, a scarf, etc. If you’re only going to have ONE Balenciaga and need a crossbody option, the Small City is my recommendation.

New YouTube video of my favourite crossbody bags

If you like to see me talk more about of these crossbody bags and how they look on my 173 cm / 5’8″ frame, I’ve made my second YouTube video!

This video has more closeups of each bag and you can see how they look on when carried crossbody. Hopefully this is a great help for those of you who consider getting one of these bags.

Still amazed how much work it is to make a video and my respect for YouTubers has really grown. I have a long way to go before I feel comfortable in front of the camera, but loving the editing part and how to put it all together. Below you can take a look at my second YT project, and if you like it you are more than welcome to subscribe to my channel!
