Polka dot dress and dad sneakers

A polka dot dress and dad sneakers are the perfect summer outfit for 2018. The ugly sneaker trend, also called the dad sneaker trend, is something we either love or hate. Personally, I love it, especially paired with a feminine dress.

Polka dot dress for a steal

Polka dots is something I’ve never really been a big fan of until recently. I’ve always been a striped kind of girl, but lately, I’ve replaced them more and more with polka dots. It brings a fun and feminine twist to an outfit.

This black and white polka dot midi dress with cute ruffles and a tie-around belt was an amazing sale find at H&M last fall. I love to dig around in their sales section, on the hunt for something nice at a really affordable price. This dress wasn’t expensive in the first place, but at 50% off it was a steal! Maybe you’ll find something similar on sale too?

Since the summer sale has already begun, here’s a pro shopping tip: browse around online all season long and put the things you like in the online store’s wish lists. In this way, it’s easy to grab what you really want on sale instead of buying something just because it’s on sale.

No more suffering to follow fashion

So why do I love these “ugly” dad sneakers so much? Over the years some trends have not been very comfortable and women had to suffer to follow fashion. Like the ultra-high stiletto heels or insane platform shoes. My fear of heights and twisting my ankles (which I’ve done my fair share of!) makes me dread these kinds of shoes, no matter how beautiful they are or how long and sexy they make your legs look. And believe me when I say I need all the help I can get, because instead of being blessed with a pair of hot and slender legs like UpCloseAndStylish, I was given a pair of chunky “soccer” legs. At least they look kind of toned and muscular. Lol.

But more importantly, or shall I say problematic, are my feet. I have problem feet and they don’t like high heeled shoes unless I mostly sit down. So when a comfy shoe trend comes along, I’m all over it! Lately, it seems like fashion is going in a more comfy direction and a big YAY for that. Comfortable and stylish flats like the Chanel espadrilles and the Gucci Princetown have been my best shoe friends the last few years, and now I have another new best friend: the ugly dad sneaker!

The comfortable dad sneaker

I’ve never been much of a sneaker girl though, I often chose to wear the classic Converse All Stars instead. But there is something special about those chunky dad sneakers, like these Balenciaga Triple S. They are cute in their own way and give me some “chunk” and height so my legs look a bit slimmer. Also, I’m a big fan of contrasts, so pairing these sneakers with feminine dresses and skirts are my favorite look these days.

Also, I love that they are colorful and fun. Usually, I opt for black shoes with an occasional exception of nude and red, but never multicolored. Maybe that’s why I love them so much, they stand out in my shoe collection. Nothing else I own are like them. They give my outfits a cool vibe and I really do hope the dad sneaker is here to stay, at least for a while.

  1. This is such a cool look, I haven’t been sure about the chunky trainers until now – you have totally convinced me that they are wearable! I love the contrast with the long flow dress. Can’t wait to try out this style, let’s hope for a restock soon!
