Red handbags and how to style them
Did I mention I love red handbags? Probably many times! Those who know me know I’m crazy about a red handbag. It brings something extra to an outfit and can even make your gloomy day a bit brighter. Every girl needs a red handbag.
I can’t explain exactly why I have such a love for red handbags, and also red accessories in general, but I’ve probably been influenced by my mother. For as long as I can remember she’s always told me I look so good in red and that this is the best color for me. I’m natural blond with pale skin, so perhaps I need that extra pop?
In this article, I’m taking you down the memory lane, where you can see how I’ve styled my red handbags over the years. First up are a couple of pics from our honeymoon in New York City back in 2013. Brought my Balenciaga City in Coquelicot red and I carried it with grey jeans and a white dress.
How to style a red handbag
Do you think that a red handbag may be difficult to style? Not at all! Just think outside the box for a second and you have endless opportunities. I’d say it’s almost as versatile as a black bag.
Yes, I do love to wear a red handbag with an all-black outfit or with black as a base, but another favorite is mixing red and camel. Red goes perfectly with both dark camel and light beige, it brings that extra pop to a neutral colored outfit.
And red also goes with other pop colors, like yellow. Why not? Wear a black base, a yellow kimono and throw on a red bag for a fun pop color look. Or what about red on red? It’s perfectly allowed! I’ve even worn a red bag with a lilac/blue dress, and even though I probably wouldn’t do that today, it did work with a summer tan on a holiday in Spain a few years ago.
I also love to style a red handbag with flower patterns and leopard.
A bag is so much more than just a “bag”
I honestly love red in all shades, but my favorite shades are a true fire engine red, a dark red with a hint of blue, and Bordeaux. This may put me in trouble though because when I see a handbag I love and want to play safe and buy the black version, I also NEED a red version if that exists! Which it sometimes does, and that makes me very happy, but not necessarily my wallet.
But if I had to choose between only getting a black bag or a red bag I’d have a problem. Because yes, I do think black is the most classic and safe way to go, but then again I don’t think about a bag as just a “bag”, something to hold your stuff when you’re out and about. To me, a handbag is so much more. It’s the most important accessory of an outfit and it can bring it to new heights. It can make your crappy day a little brighter and make you smile just by looking at it. Bag fanatics know what I’m talking about. So I want the handbag to stand out and be seen. I want it to POP, like a red handbag does.
I’ll give you an example. When I was pregnant with my second child and felt bloated and pretty crappy, so I brought a red Chanel Boy with me on a holiday to Los Angeles, and to be completely honest it made me feel a little prettier and more cheerful. Bear in mind I was pretty ill in this pregnancy so I needed all the cheer I could get!
Every girl needs a red handbag
Like I mentioned earlier, I honestly believe every girl needs a red handbag. It’s (almost) as versatile as a black bag and you get so much fun out of it. It makes your outfit pop and it cheers you up.
And let’s not forget the cliches – a red handbag is also the perfect bag for Christmas and Valentine’s Day! I’d say it’s a must.

I just found your Instagram and blogg. I am also a Balenciaga lover and bag fanatic ๐ฌ
Once I heard that red can be considered as a neutral and I kind of agree with that. I am extremely week for true red hand bags.
Hi Kajsa, love to hear that you adore Balenciaga and red bags too!! They can absolutely be a neutral, I use them with most outfits ๐
