The Chanel Gabrielle hobo bag
Like I mentioned in my previous post, I was lucky enough to find the bag that has been on top of my wishlist for a long time at Chanel’s flagship store at 31, Rue Cambon in Paris. And finally, here is the reveal of the newest member of my bag family: the Chanel Gabrielle hobo bag.
I apologize to those who have waited for this reveal, but I wanted to do it properly as this is a very special bag to me. And not only are you getting a bag reveal but an unboxing video too. Who doesn’t love that?
The perfect Gabby
This particular bag has been a dream since the Gabrielle line was launched in early 2017. I immediately loved it. Amongst all the lovely variations of the Gabrielle bags, this particular bag was the one: the Chanel Gabrielle hobo bag in black and beige, in the medium size. The perfect Gabby.
At first glance, you may find it a bit boring, but then you realize how unique it is.
The Gabrielle hobo is a combination of the Chanel classic and timeless look with a modern twist. The rigid bottom structure and classical quilted body in aged calfskin make it durable. The chain is made of gold, silver and ruthenium hardware which makes it easy to combine it with both silver and gold jewelry. And you can wear it in 7 different ways. It’s a bag unlike anything else. It’s pure perfection.
The color combination
I love the two-toned Gabrielle bags, especially in this color combination. To me, black and beige are the ultimate classic Chanel. I was also told by the lovely SA who helped me that Coco Chanel often used black combined with this shade of beige in her designs to create the illusion of longer legs. So my ultimate classic Chanel feelings were confirmed.
I wanted a classic Gabby, but at the same time, I didn’t want my Gabby to be too neutral. Black and beige make it a true classic that goes with everything, but with a little twist. In addition, the interior inside the bag is made of burgundy red fabric which gives it a little extra pop when you open it.
The medium size is perfect. Although the small hobo is unbelievably cute, it was too small for my needs because I plan to use my Gabby as an “everyday bag” that fits my essentials and then some. I’d say the small hobo is something in between a small and an old medium Boy bag. The medium hobo is a little bit larger than a new medium Boy and probably around the same size as a classic Jumbo flap.
Taking Gabby out in Paris
Of course, I couldn’t wait to unbox/give birth (LOL) to my Gabby so she was born on a beautiful July day in a hotel room in the Latin Quarter. And after that, it was time to show her the beautiful city of Paris. She went along with us for some souvenir shopping in Saint Germain, lunch and cake at Cafe de Flore and dinner at L’avenue. She is the perfect travel companion as she can be carried in safe ways like the V-style, belt style and crossbody.
I also have to add that even though the medium size is larger than your normal take on an evening bag, it totally works as an evening bag as well as a day bag. Because Gabby is a classy lady that is neutral but with a little sass.
As a little bonus, here is a video of the unboxing of the newest member of my bag family. Or the birth of my beloved Gabby as I prefer to call it. I know, I know. Crazy bag lady. But we do need to have some silly fun with this craziness, right? Hope you enjoy.
Welcome to the bag family, my dear Gabby!
