Tulle skirt and leather jacket
Not long ago I attended the birthday party of a good friend of mine, and since I don’t go to parties that often anymore (hello motherhood and getting older!) I decided to go all in. Carrie Bradshaw all in. Which means a tulle skirt and leather jacket in my case.
The tulle skirt, a pregnant insanity purchase
During my last pregnancy, I gained more weight and felt worse compared to my first one. And for some odd reason, or maybe that’s the exact reason, I loved to shop non-pregnancy clothes and pray they would fit afterward. Maybe it was my way to keep going. And once my second (and last!) pregnancy was over and I didn’t look like Winne the Pooh anymore, I would slip into clothes that were not related to pregnancies what so ever. This tulle skirt was one of them. I had no idea if it would ever fit, but I had to have it.
Luckily it actually did fit, about 6 months postpartum. But the problem is, where the heck are you going to wear something like this unless you are Carrie Bradshaw (or Sarah Jessica Parker) and live in Manhattan sipping Cosmopolitans? NYC is my favorite city in the world and I’m convinced I was supposed to be born in Manhattan, but for some reason, I was born in Oslo and this is where I live. Not many Carrie Bradshaw vibes going on. But when my lovely friend decided to have a fabulous birthday party I finally had my golden chance. The tulle skirt would have its outdoor premiere. First at the subway, then at the party.
Dress it down
I had to dress down this peachy pink and voluminous tulle skirt, or else I’d feel too cotton candy and princessy. But since the occasion was a birthday party it also needed some glam. So I styled it with a white Balmain tee with gold details to get a little bit of bling but added minimal jewelry, just a narrow black Hermès Clic bracelet. I went with black pumps, black Chanel Reissue bag, and black RayBan aviators to make the look a little more rock chic. And topped it off with a black leather jacket from Balenciaga.
Since I’m a fan of contrasts and we literally stepped right into a construction site when getting off the subway, why not take some pics? Just missed a helmet and the outfit would be complete!
Black leather jacket
A black leather jacket is an essential wardrobe piece. You need one in your closet. It goes with everything, even a tulle skirt. This jacket is an “oldie” from Balenciaga from 2008. The leather is super thick, distressed and amazing, and it just gets better with age. It’s a classic biker jacket that never goes out of style.
I strongly suggest investing in a leather jacket, and no matter which brand you choose to get, make sure it’s the classic biker style. And don’t get the first one you see, try on a few first and when you find the perfect fit for your body type, you’ll have a jacket that goes with absolutely everything. From casual jeans to tulle skirts.
